Vik, Iceland: The Most Picturesque Town. Ever.

As far as town's go Vik, Iceland doesn't have much to offer in the way of commodities, but what it lacks in a main street it makes up for in some of the best scenery i've ever seen. Picture a town surrounded by cliff's equal to any in Yosemite, a shore equal to anything on the West Coast, and more green than you would ever expect from a place called Iceland.
Surreal.

We had the opportunity to spend a few days of our trip in the vicinity of Vik, passing through on our tour of the southern coast, and again on our return to Reykjavik. A few of our destinations (Dyrhólaey, Skogafoss, Thórsmörk, and Reynisdrangar) were located just outside of town, making it a great home base for our adventures. We stayed at a few different hotels in the area, all expensive, but we had no other complaints with them otherwise.
Late night sun set.
In the center of town, on a hill, in the most ridiculously jaw-dropping setting, was a small red roofed church. And it was this church, that on out first visit to Vik, was bathed in the late afternoon sunlight (9pm!) painting the facade and nearby cliffs in orange-ish yellow light. I flew up the steep dirt road to the church, jumped out of the car and ran into the field and snapped pictures for what felt like hours. It was awesome.
Prime Real Estate.
I returned to this very spot once more later that night to watch base jumpers float down into town from the cliffs above as the sun "set" behind the Northern Hills. Vik will forever be remembered as the most picturesque town I have ever visited. So far at least. Cheers!
